[Back to Top] Music for Dragon Trek™

Dragon Trek is the concept for a Role Playing Game (RPG) which I hope someday will be a reality. It is a story full of morals and messages about the world today that will hopefully open the eyes of those who experience it.

The following are pieces of music that I have composed solely for their use in Dragon Trek. For more information on Dragon Trek, please visit the Games Section.

NOTE: When multiple versions of a midi are listed, the first one in the list is the most recent rendition. All ratings, comments and descriptions apply to this one.

If you are unsure, the [LISTEN] button will bring up the most recent version from the list.

[Back to Top] Angry/Dramatic Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "A Little Closer to the Stars"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: Newfound freedom at the helm of the starship.
Comments: This a little simpler than most of my other songs, but it turned out REALLY well!!!

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "A Worser Tyrrany"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: Dorian ushers in a worser tyrrany than the world knew under Zecarn's reign.
Comments: This one started out as a chracter request from NeoPhoenix. It was a theme for Kestrinia, an evil sorceress. But now, with his approval, it's part of Dragon Trek.

Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Cataclysm"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: A time of crisis.
Comments: Gives a sense of urgency and desperation. I began sequencing the decisive battle theme from Chrono Trigger, but after the first few seconds, my creativivity took over.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Chase Scene"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: A comical chase scene.
Comments: This is my take of the stereotypical xylophone chase music...you'll know what I mean when you hear it. The original is from the old television show "Keystone Kops" and is quite well known.

Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Child of Chaos"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: Dorian recalls his childhood as he watches the Stoneford farm burn against the night sky.
Comments: Original version composed by Trip n' Save. Used and remixed with permission.

Older Versions: Original by Trip n' Save
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Fight, my Son!"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: The Dragon Trek battle music.
Comments: Has a sound of epic heroism, interupted by the tenderness in the warrior's heart - a strenth, not a weakness. It is the pain which he fights to redeem.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "High Stakes"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: A bet at the arena has higher stakes than anyone thought when Albert appears as the challenger.
Comments: Permission given to NeoPhoenix to borrow this as his character theme.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "NO TIME!"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: A little over a minute until detonation!
Comments: A fast paced action theme. The tempo and pitch increase as the song proceeds to the climax, giving a sense that time is running out! It still sends a chill down my spine when I listen to it.

Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Fated Moment"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: The foreboding preamble to the final battle.
Comments: There's no turning back.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Only Thing to Fear"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: Battle with a mini-boss.
Comments: The remake is a huge step up from the original. Has a sense of rage and dread.

Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 1

[Back to Top] Sad/Melancholy Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "To Those who Perished"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: Honouring their fallen comrades.
Comments: Yet another one that's a bit rusty.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Who is Rachel?"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: William asks his parents a question that dredges up painful memories.
Comments: Has a quiet and sad reminiscence to it, but also hope.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Light of Dusk Brings no Comfort"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: William and his Dragon cross a mountain range by sunset.
Comments: Unfortunately, this one only has its proper effect when listened to with my sound font. It didn't fare very well in either of the midi competitions I submit to because of this.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Taru's Vow"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: Taru vows that when the world is no longer in danger, he will return to free his newfound love, Sofie, from the grips of the undead eye dragon.
Comments: A bold character theme for a bold character. Though Taru has formidable strength, he now has a sincere cause to apply it. Though it may be barely recognizable, it does have the same melody as the aria that Sofie sings. She is the source of his new courage.

[Back to Top] Happy/Lively Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Carnival"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: Taking a little time out and visiting a local carnival.
Comments: Has the rhythm of a walz!
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Gambler"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: Grandpa the gambler.
Comments: Sounds like something from Riverdance.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Village of Canis"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: A small village deep in the Great Forest, where the Canisan live in tune with nature. William arrives at nighttime, and joins the celebration of the hunt.
Comments: The percussion is quite complex, with a selection of natural instruments. Has a lively nighttime atmosphere.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Dragon Statues"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: The Village of Draggor. A quaint backwater town, where the residents are deeply religious, and worship the Dragon God. Scattered all over the town are statues of this religious symbol.
Comments: Has an ethnic flavour to it, especially when the strings swell upward.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Dorian & Zedge"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: The two surviving underlings in a disastrous mission decide to take the spoils of battle for themselves, and plot to overthrow their leader.
Comments: Begins as an almost comical melody, but heightens to insane evil.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: Version 2 | Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Dragon Trek Overture"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: The opening credits, title screen, and game menu music.
Comments: An interesting melding together of the main Dragon Trek themes into a heroic prelude.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Fortune's Favour"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: Victory Fanfare.
Comments: Though the battle is won, there's still a feeling of insecurity.

Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "This is my Home"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: Stoneford Farm - William's home, and the only place he's ever known.
Comments: Has a feeling of warmth and security.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 3 | Version 2 | Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Out into the World"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: William is cast out into a large and unfamilliar world.
Comments: Has a very ethnic quality to it from the guitars, pan pipes, and percussion. Soothing to listen to.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Rhetoric"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: Striking a deal with the village elders.
Comments: "Fortune's Favour" first emerged from the ending of this one.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "To the Summit!"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: William and Crystalfyre retreat from the enflamed situation in Draggor Village by the only exit they can.
Comments: I based this on the "Mount Gale" theme from Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. The most obvious similarity is the descending sequence of notes played by the flute.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Zecarn"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: The theme of the evil Emperor Zecarn.
Comments: Have you ever noticed how all the badguys' names end in the letter Z? Why break tradition now?! Has the definite quality of a march to it.

Older Versions: Version 1

[Back to Top] Calm/Trance Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Black"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: Black magic. An evil ceremony takes place.
Comments: Mostly percussion and sound effect. It can sound terrible if the instruments from your soundcard don't agree.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Cave"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: The thick darkness and cold stale air.
Comments: -
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Opening"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: A brief history of the universe, and the nature of good and evil.
Comments: A quiet piece, full of yearning we all feel to know the secrets of the universe.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Rural Life"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: A lazy town theme.
Comments: About a year after I composed this, I noticed a striking similarity of the melody to Ian Anderson's "On their Father's Knee", from his CD "Divinities: 12 Dances with God". This is purely a coincidence.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Isle of Winter"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: All alone in the Northern Land.
Comments: Originally a composition for a computer game project, but I'm too attached to it to let it go. It was supposed to be a character theme for Myrk, a mystical fox creature that lives in a land cursed by eternal winter. Personally, I find it very relaxing to listen to.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: 8MGM-Soundfont Version | Version 1

[Back to Top] Mysterious Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Obelisk"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: An obelisk placed long ago on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The runes are in a language that William cannot understand, though he does feel, "...a movement...dark and far away...."
Comments: Creates an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Dark Thoughts"    [3 Bars]
------------------
Description: William realizes something he wishes he hadn't.
Comments: Sounds dark and menacing.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Dream Horizon"    [4 Bars]
------------------
Description: William has a strange dream during his overnight stay in Canis.
Comments: Has a very ethnic tambourine rhythm. The clock ticks and breathing add an essence of time.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3]
Older Versions: Version2 | Version 1
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Stargazing"    [5 Bars]
------------------
Description: William and his father revive an old family tradition.
Comments: Very pretty and relaxing. It has the sense of wonder that many people feel as they look up at the billions of stars at nighttime.

Albums: Dragon Trek CD!
Special: [MP3] [AWARD]
Older Versions: Version 1

[Back to Top] Unclassifiable Pieces
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "The Angel's Message"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: The spirit of a small girl tells William of her journey, and his destiny.
Comments: This was one of my first original compositions. It became one of the fundamental themes for Dragon Trek.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Crater Desert"    [2 Bars]
------------------
Description: Exploring the scorched-dry desert around Stoneford Farm.
Comments: Original version composed by Trip n' Save (Based on "This is my Home" version 1). Used and remixed with permission.

Older Versions: Original by Trip n' Save
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Reminiscing"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: Ending music.
Comments: Another one of my first original tunes. Old and unpolished. I think that a remake would do it a world of good.
[LISTEN] [MIDI] "Sofie's Aria"    [1 Bar]
------------------
Description: Sofie sings a song to distract a large one-eyed undead dragon, while Taru escapes from the underworld.
Comments: It's obvious that I derived this one from "Only You", but this variation came to me in a dream, and I take things that I dream very seriously.
